A result is not an exact point
Measurement results are estimates produced by a defined procedure. Measurement uncertainty describes the dispersion of values that could reasonably be attributed to the measurand under the stated conditions.
Uncertainty is not the same as a mistake. It is part of making the quality and resolution of a result explicit.

Detection and reporting are decisions
Terms such as limit of detection, limit of quantitation, and reporting limit can be defined differently by method or program. Read the laboratory’s definition and avoid assuming the terms are interchangeable.
‘Not detected’ ordinarily means that the method did not produce a reportable signal under its criteria. It should not be expanded into an absolute claim of absence.

Comparisons near a limit
Values close to a reporting threshold deserve particular care. Rounding, blank contribution, calibration, recovery, and uncertainty can affect interpretation.
When a decision rule is used to compare a result with a specification, the rule and its treatment of uncertainty should be transparent.
